Dots

General
All skills and attributes are reckoned with “dots” (so named because of how they appear on the character sheet). With the exception of Willpower, Arete, Health, and the Paradox/Quintessence wheel, your attributes, skills, and even spheres are represented by 1-5 dots each.

For Skills and Attributes
1- novice: you have some basic experience with the skill; your attribute is below average for a Sleeper
2- intermediate: you have had formal training in a skill; your attribute is average for a Sleeper
3- advanced: you could teach others about your skill; your attribute is above average for a Sleeper
4- exceptional: you could write multiple doctoral theses about your skill; your attribute rivals olympic competitors
5- master: you could shoot the wings off a fly, find loopholes in a contract with the devil, and perform other such miraculous actions without using magic at all; you have unlocked parts of your brains and muscles in your body that most people don’t even know about

For Spheres
1- novice: you can detect basic occurrences within that sphere and analyze the properties of items and effects associated with them
2- intermediate: you can make minor influences in the sphere as it relates to yourself, your allies, and inanimate objects
3- advanced: you can make direct attacks against your enemies using the sphere itself (as opposed to causing an “accident” to happen)
4- exceptional: you can transmute the sphere’s effects in others and on a wider scale
5- master: you wield the sphere with perfection; you can create life, form entirely new elements, and perform other such wondrous effects
